A new autograph question has emerged surrounding Miley Cyrus’ latest album, Bass Persuades.

The album’s official merchandise campaign included a limited signed edition, with Miley’s official store describing the signed black vinyl as including a signed insert. The product was listed at $29.98 and was scheduled to ship September 18, 2026.

But once fans began receiving their signed albums, collectors started comparing the autographs to examples of Miley signing in person.

And that comparison raises an interesting question:

Does the autograph appearing on the Bass Persuades signed insert actually resemble the autograph Miley is currently signing herself?

We compared two examples:

1. Miley Cyrus displaying an autograph herself in a September 4 social-media post.
2. A signed Bass Persuades insert received by a fan.

At first glance, both may appear to be variations of Miley’s stylized signature.

Look closer, however, and there are several notable differences in the construction, proportions, loops, and overall execution.

This does not, by itself, prove that the Bass Persuades signatures are secretarial. But the differences are significant enough that we believe they deserve examination.

What Is a Secretarial Autograph?

Before looking at the signatures, it is important to define the terminology.

A secretarial autograph is a signature that was applied by someone other than the celebrity, typically an assistant, employee, representative, or another person authorized to sign items on the celebrity’s behalf.

Secretarial autographs can be particularly difficult for collectors because they may appear on legitimate merchandise sold through official channels.

That distinction is important.

An autograph can be:

• printed,
• mechanically reproduced,
• signed by the celebrity,
• signed by another person,
• or genuinely signed by the celebrity but substantially different from their other known examples.

Therefore, seeing a signature that looks different from another example does not automatically establish that it is secretarial.

Instead, the question becomes whether the signature’s underlying construction and execution are consistent with authenticated examples from the same signer and time period.

The First Comparison: Miley’s Own Displayed Autograph

The first autograph examined for this article comes from a photograph of Miley Cyrus holding a signed piece of album artwork.

The photograph provides an interesting comparison because the autograph is being displayed alongside Miley herself.

The signature has a loose, highly stylized appearance.

Several characteristics immediately stand out.

1. The opening stroke

The beginning of Miley’s displayed signature has a large, sweeping construction.

Rather than looking like a carefully reproduced symbol, the opening portion appears to have been executed quickly, with irregularity in the size and direction of the strokes.

That type of variation can be useful when examining celebrity autographs because genuine signatures are normally produced through a person’s habitual motor movements.

They are not necessarily identical every time—but they often retain certain underlying characteristics.

The Bass Persuades Signature

Now compare that with the signature appearing on the signed Bass Persuades insert.

The autograph has a dramatically stylized appearance.

The most noticeable characteristics include:

• a large initial structure;
• a prominent loop near the beginning;
• a large central oval/loop;
• a long horizontal flourish;
• a rounded terminal section;
• relatively clean and controlled transitions between the major components.

The signature is visually striking.

But it is also the consistency of the construction that makes it interesting from an authentication perspective.

The Central Loop

The central portion of the Bass Persuades autograph is another significant point of comparison.

The signed insert contains a large, clearly defined oval/loop.

The loop is visually prominent and forms a major component of the signature.

The displayed Miley autograph uses a different-looking central construction.

The proportions, shape and relationship between the strokes appear different.

This is important because loops can be particularly useful in autograph comparison.

Rather than simply asking whether two signatures “look alike,” an examiner can examine:

• where the loop begins;
• where it closes;
• the direction of the stroke;
• how tightly it is formed;
• where subsequent strokes originate;
• how the loop interacts with surrounding letters.

These structural relationships can provide considerably more information than simply comparing the overall appearance.

The Long Horizontal Flourish

Another striking characteristic of the Bass Persuades signature is the long horizontal flourish extending toward the right.

This flourish appears to be integrated into the signature’s overall structure.

The question isn’t simply whether Miley sometimes uses a long flourish.

The more useful question is:

Does Miley normally produce this flourish in the same way?

When comparing the two examples shown in this article, the answer is not obvious.

The trajectory and relationship of the flourish to the preceding loops appear different.

Again, that doesn’t establish a secretarial signature.

But it is precisely the sort of feature an autograph authenticator would want to examine against a larger database of authenticated Miley Cyrus examples.

Overall Rhythm and Execution

Perhaps the most interesting difference isn’t one individual letter.

It is the overall rhythm.

Miley’s displayed autograph appears to have a more spontaneous, irregular quality.

The Bass Persuades autograph appears more controlled and constructed.

This distinction deserves careful consideration.

A celebrity signing hundreds or thousands of identical inserts may naturally produce signatures that become:

• faster;
• simpler;
• more abbreviated;
• less consistent with older examples.

Bulk signing can dramatically change the appearance of an autograph.

Therefore, a signature looking “cleaner” or more repetitive doesn’t automatically mean someone else signed it.

But if a large population of signatures displays the same unusual construction, while the celebrity’s authenticated signatures consistently display a different construction, that can become much more significant.

Could Miley Simply Have Changed Her Signature?

Absolutely.

This is one of the biggest reasons autograph authentication cannot be based on a single comparison.

Celebrity signatures evolve.

A person may have completely different autograph styles at different points in their career.

Miley Cyrus has been signing autographs for many years, and there is no reason to assume that her signature from 2026 must look exactly like one from 2013, 2017, or 2022.

There can also be differences between:

Personal autograph

and

Merchandise signing.

Someone signing a photograph for a fan might take more time and produce a more elaborate signature.

Someone signing hundreds or thousands of inserts might develop a faster version.

That possibility needs to be considered.

But There Is Another Question: Consistency

This is where the Bass Persuades autographs become particularly interesting to collectors.

The important question isn’t:

“Does one signature look different?”

Instead, collectors should ask:

“Do multiple signed inserts consistently show the same signature pattern?”

If hundreds of Bass Persuades inserts show essentially the same unusual signature construction, that gives collectors considerably more information.

For example, researchers could compare:

• 10 signed inserts;
• 25 signed inserts;
• 50 signed inserts;
• signatures from different batches;
• different ink colors;
• signatures from different retailers or editions.

A large sample could reveal whether the autograph naturally varies—or whether it appears to have been reproduced using a remarkably consistent signing pattern.

Why the Official Source Matters

There is another important piece of information that collectors should keep in mind.

The signed Bass Persuades product was not presented as an unofficial autograph item from a third-party seller.

Miley’s official store describes the product as:

“Bass Persuades – Signed Black Vinyl”

The official product description says the gatefold jacket includes the album, a 24×36 poster and a signed insert.

That makes this situation particularly interesting for collectors.

If a signed insert is officially marketed as part of an artist’s merchandise offering, collectors reasonably expect the autograph to have been personally signed by the artist unless the product description says otherwise.

The question therefore isn’t whether the album itself is legitimate.

The question is who physically applied the autograph to the insert.

Based solely on the photographs examined for this article, we are not declaring the Bass Persuades signatures fake.

We are also not stating as a fact that they are secretarial.

That would require substantially more evidence.

What we can say is:

The signatures shown in these photographs are materially different in several observable characteristics.

Those differences include:

• initial construction;
• loop formation;
• central structure;
• stroke relationships;
• terminal flourish;
• proportions;
• overall execution and rhythm.

Those differences are sufficient to justify further investigation.

The Bottom Line for Collectors

The official Bass Persuades signed edition is an interesting case study in modern celebrity autograph collecting.

Miley’s official store specifically marketed a signed black vinyl edition containing a signed insert, with the product scheduled to ship September 18, 2026.

Yet the autograph appearing on the fan-received insert we examined does not closely resemble the autograph Miley is shown displaying herself in the comparison photograph.

That doesn’t establish that the autograph is secretarial.

But it does create a question that deserves to be answered.

For collectors, the lesson is simple:

Don’t just look at whether a signature has the celebrity’s name. Examine how the signature is constructed.

The initial stroke, loops, connecting movements, proportions, terminal flourishes and overall writing rhythm can all provide useful clues.

And when an autograph is being sold as an official signed product, those details matter.
